Let’s Go Golfing in Costa Calida, Murcia

Lo Romero golf course in Murcia is punctuated by sultry lagoons and sweeping greens.

Just as skiers flock to Baqueria-Beret or La Molina when they want to hit the slopes, golfers congregate here along our generous coastline for what many consider a premier destination for golfing in Costa Calida, Murcia.

So Many Golfing Destinations

The Murcia province alone has 18 courses with more under construction. Ten of these courses are within 30 minutes of the San Javier Airport, making them super convenient for meeting clients or guests. The greens fees are reasonable, and each one offers a unique course design and playing experience.

Mar Menor Golf Resort, for example, is home to an 18-hole design by renowned architect Dave Thomas and Jack Nicklaus. It is the original course on the Jack Nicklaus Golf Trail, a collection of six of the finest golf courses in Murcia. The resort offers a variety of properties, too, including these upscale golf resort apartments and villas that give you year-round access to the demanding and well maintained course.

The remaining five courses on the Golf Trail are La Torre, Saurines de la Torre, Hacienda Riquelme, El Valle, and Condado de Alhama, each with distinct characteristics. Many who golf in the area consider these destinations to be some of the most important golfing in Costa Calida – perhaps even in Europe.

Beginners and Advanced Players Welcome

With so many golf courses in Murcia, you’re bound to run into some that are more difficult than others. The good news is, once you golf in Murcia, you’re likely to get hooked. So if you’re a beginner, you can take advantage of golf classes at places like Roda Golf & Beach Resort, and then move on to more challenging courses (check out the nail biter 18th hole at Condado de Alhama).

Without a doubt, the Costa Calida is a golfer’s paradise. From the shores of the Mar Menor and further inland, you’ll find plenty of excuses to get out and enjoy the great weather and the recreation that goes with it.

If you’re fortunate enough to snag a golf resort property in the area, and you haven’t taken up golf yet, we highly recommend taking a swing at it. You might just find yourself with a new favorite pastime.
