Costa de Almeria Guide

The Costa de Almeria or Almeria Coast, boasts of 13 small villages and towns that form a beautiful 137 mile long coastline, stretching from Pulpi to Adra.

The name Costa de Almeria was a term designated during the 1960s to promote tourism to foreign visitors as a way of attracting income from abroad.

The Cabo de Gata-Nijer National Park is one of Spain’s most amazing natural areas. The desert area receives little rainfall, but its rugged and beautiful landscapes host a variety of flora and fauna.

Nearby is the small San José fishing village, nestled away in secluded coves.

Roquetas de Mar is more attuned to those who enjoy social activities. The once tiny fishing village has many annual festivals and its regional cuisine is often replicated in restaurants across Spain. Hiring a car to explore this area is strongly recommended so you can have freedom to go at your own pace and get away from the beaten touristic areas.

As the years have progressed, the Costa de Almeria has become one of the most popular destinations for buying property in Spain, specifically for British expats.

The Most Notable Areas In The Costa de Almeria Include:

The city of Almeria is characterized by an Alcazaba (Moorish Fort). Even the Cathedral here was built to resemble a fort because it was built in times of war. The architecture here is of the Renaissance and Gothic style.

A car also gets you access into the mountains that tower over Almeria for an amazing view of the city and coast. You will also be able to see the port, which was central to the growth of the city. The Sierra Maria Los Velez Nature reserve, with their castle, caves, and rich fauna and the Cabo de Gato-Nijar nature reserve, with its deserted beaches, wild cliffs, and transparent sea beds, bring alive a landscape which offers travellers a magical combination of snow, Mediterranean forest, desert, and sea.

Visit the Coast of Almeria, and you will soon see for yourself the beauty and peace that it offers!
